In 1919, Tommaso Tobia Poggi bought the company's current location, with one of the biggest and oldest furnaces in Impruneta, Italy. He was soon joined by his sons Augusto and Ugo, and the company started producing bricks, roof tiles, bowls and jars, along with outdoor decor pieces. In the 1940’s, the company started growing, exporting to countries like Germany, Switzerland and the U.S. Ugo’s daughters Licia and Liliana began running the company in 1982, renaming it after their father.

Today, Poggi Ugo is managed by the fourth-generation of the Poggi family, and is notable for being the first to create a line of modern and contemporary decor using exclusively terracotta.
